Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has plans to run it back with the BMF champion Max Holloway . Right now, Oliveira is searching for legacy battles. So, choosing to get revenge on Holloway for his defeat made the most sense for the Brazilian.

The former champion provided insight into the possible matchup in a recent interview with AgFight.  During the interview, Charles Oliveira discussed his injury during his first fight with Max Holloway. According to ‘Do Bronx,’ he would like to add the BMF title to his MMA legacy.

About the legacy, about everything I’ve been talking about. Why not? Win a belt. A guy that I fought many years ago where I had an injury during the fight. So why not? Charles Oliveira via AgFight

Oliveira fought Holloway back in 2015 in the featherweight division. During the fight, in the very first round, Oliveira injured his esophagus. As a result, Holloway won the fight via TKO. Since then, both fighters have come a long way. Holloway ruled the featherweight division from 2017-19. On the other hand, Oliveira had a once-in-a-lifetime run at lightweight, which ended in a title reign for the Brazilian fighter.

Both Holloway and Oliveira were part of the iconic UFC 300 main card last month. While the ‘Blessed’ took home a massive win, the same wasn’t the case for Oliveira. The rematch between Holloway and Oliveira remains a legacy fight as well as a money fight. As such, fans would love to see them fight each other for the BMF title.

Charles Oliveira almost got crippled after his injury against Max Holloway

Growing up, Charles Oliveira had an incredibly difficult childhood, and his injury versus Max Holloway was undoubtedly very hazardous. At that moment, the fighter quickly went down and grabbed his neck throughout the struggle. Oliveira became terrified at that point and was unable to contain his tears.

During an interview with COMBATE, the fighter talked about being unable to move for a few hours. According to the Brazilian, he thought he would be crippled for life.

It was four hours without moving the left side. I was afraid of being crippled. I was sad, I cried like hell. Not for losing, but for the way it happened. People end up thinking the worst. It was a shock to everyone in the family, so much so that my mother cried… It was bad, a scare, but the situation is over. Charles Oliveira via COMBATE

After such a life-threatening injury, Oliveira made his comeback and then went on to become the lightweight champion of the world. According to many fans, his time as the champion is regarded as one of the most exciting reigns in UFC history. A BMF title would definitely be a cherry on top of his incredible professional career.
