Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Shares Latest Update on Kristaps Porzingis Ahead of 2024 ECF: ‘He’s Been Engaged’
Michael Laughlin-USA TODAY Sports

Although the Boston Celtics have gone 5-1 without Kristaps Porzingis so far in this playoffs en route to reaching their third consecutive Eastern Conference Finals, his return couldn’t come soon enough for them.

The Latvian center injured his calf against the Miami Heat in the first round, and he is expected to miss more time against the Indiana Pacers. But Jaylen Brown, among others, recently expressed optimism about his progress ahead of Game 1.

“KP’s been great. Still very active. Been at every practice, making sure he’s still involved in every team huddle & just staying in the mix mentally even though physically he’s not fully there yet mentally he’s been engaged — that’s a great sign,” Brown said about Porzingis in a press conference via Josue Pavon on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Jaylen Brown’s comments align with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who reported Friday that Kristaps Porzingis’ comeback is only a matter of time. KP is expected to be sidelined for Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Boston Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla, Jrue Holiday double down on Kristaps Porzingis’ “positive” update

Like Jaylen Brown, Joe Mazzulla also said that Kristaps Porzingis is in a “great place mentally” as he works his way back from his strained right calf. However, the Boston Celtics’ head coach remains tight-lipped about when the Latvian international will return to action.

“He’s working hard every single day to make as fast as a recovery as he can. So he’s there for everything and it can’t go underestimated how hard he works, trying to come back in a timely fashion,” said Mazzulla via Brian Robb of MassLive.

“You know that he wants to play,” Holiday added about Porzingis. “You know that he wants to get out there and play with his teammates, but then seeing him out there and seeing him working has been good. And honestly just hope that he recovers fast so that we can get him back out there.”
