Watch: ‘Clutch’ Tyrese Maxey makes an outrageous shot from logo to send the Knicks-76ers Game 5 to OT
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

With their 1st round playoff series headed back to New York, the Philadelphia 76ers had to take control of the series before it went into a tiring Game 5 situation. While trying to do that, superstar Joel Embiid was struggling with his shot all night. Therefore, it fell on his teammate Tyrese Maxey to drag them through. With 8 seconds left in regulation, he did just that, scoring an outrageous shot to tie the game.

In a back-and-forth game, the 4th quarter brought some semblance of an equal fight. However, the Philadelphia 76ers were down 3 with 15 seconds to go when they inbounded the ball. Joel Embiid passed the ball to Tyrese Maxey before the half-court and moved up to set a screen.

Maxey moved around the screen to create some space and saw that only 9 seconds remained. Knowing the situation, he launched for a 3 from the logo to tie the game at 97, forcing it to go to OT.

One would wonder why he took the shot with 9 seconds to go, only to crucial minutes back to the New York Knicks. Well, had his shot not gone, they could have tried it for a second time. Moreover, they had confidence in their defense to deny the Knicks from scoring again.

Maxey’s shot not only forced overtime but also gave the 76ers the momentum. They took advantage of it and pounded the Knicks to win in front of the hostile fans of Madison Square Garden. Now the series goes back to Philadelphia with the 76ers leading 3-2.

Tyrese Maxey returns the favor to Knicks fans in their house

Game 4 of this 1st round playoff series was held in Philadelphia. A city that has a strong support base for its sporting teams. However, in that game, New York Knicks fans turned up in hordes and packed Wells Fargo Center almost turning it into a Knicks home game. Knicks fans even turned on the heat by chanting against the 76ers players.

Tonight, Tyrese Maxey and his teammates decided to return the favor. They may not have had their fans in the stands, but they went into their glorified home and sneaked away with a crucial win. So much so, that now the series is in their favor as they head home for Game 6.

Now, the ball is in their court. Even though it is possible that the Knicks fans might crowd Philadelphia, they know that they can complete the series in their own arena.
