Report: Photographer Changes Tune On Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice’s Alleged Assault Case
Kareem Elgazzar/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

A new twist has come out in the situation involving Kansas City Chiefs Rashee Rice and a photographer who alleged the wide receiver assaulted him earlier in May at a club in Dallas. The Dallas police were investigating Rice after the photographer claimed Rice punched him in the face.

Rashee Rice has had a turbulent offseason

The incident was another headline for Rice in an offseason of turbulence for the second-year NFL player. Rice is facing eight felony charges in relation to a high-speed racing crash that occurred on Easter weekend. He is also facing a lawsuit in connection to the crash.

Despite Rice’s legal issues, he participated with the Chiefs during their phase one offseason workout. He was present and a full participant for the start of OTAs this week. The Chiefs and the league are waiting for the legal situation to play out before they decide if Rice will face punishment on the field. The Chiefs reportedly expect Rice could miss several games due to a suspension.

Photographer wants charges dropped against Kansas City Chiefs WR

According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the photographer who claimed Rice punched him in the face has asked police to drop the assault charges. Per a transcription of Pelissero’s report on the NFL Network by the Kansas City Star, the photographer is claiming the incident was a “misunderstanding“:

“Rashee Rice has other issues obviously that he is facing with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had the car crash in which he faces eight … charges for his role there,” Pelissero said. “There was also a recent accusation by a photographer about him assaulting the photographer on his way out of a club. I actually can tell you, the photographer … gave an affidavit to the Dallas Police Department saying it was a misunderstanding, wants the charges dropped.

“You still have the things related to the auto incident that is going to have to play out here for her she writes and then on top of that NFL discipline, but at least for now, he’s back with the Chiefs.”

It’s unclear if the police would drop the charges. However, the prosecution would likely have difficulty proving its case if the primary alleged victim is unwilling to testify.
